Expert review

This animated fantasy adventure is visually inviting and clearly made for families, but its story is built around danger, mistrust, loss, and repeated action scenes. The main sensitive elements are frequent weapon based fights, dark creatures that turn people into stone, the loss of a parent figure, and the on screen death of an important character during the journey. Everything is stylized and there is no blood or graphic injury, yet the tension is steady and several chase sequences or petrification scenes may unsettle younger children or viewers who are easily frightened. The film also carries emotional weight through betrayal, grief, and separation, which can land strongly even when the tone stays adventurous. For most children, it works best from about age 8 or 9 with an adult nearby to reassure them during intense moments and to talk afterward about trust, forgiveness, and teamwork.

Synopsis

Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people.

Difficult scenes

Early in the story, a dark force sweeps across the kingdom and suddenly turns humans and dragons into stone statues. The sequence is quick and not graphic, but the idea of living beings being frozen in place, combined with a disaster atmosphere, can be very upsetting for a young child. A key scene shows the magical gem breaking during a confrontation between armed tribes. In the chaos, Raya's father saves her and is turned to stone in front of her, creating a strong moment of parental loss and separation. Throughout the journey, Raya faces other characters with weapons, including her whip sword, and several chases keep the pressure high. The action is stylized and clean visually, but it is more frequent and more intense than in a very gentle adventure for small children. Later in the film, a tense standoff involving a crossbow accidentally causes the death of a central character. The moment is not graphic, but it can be shocking because it happens suddenly and leads to immediate grief among the heroes.
