Expert review
This Christmas animated short has a playful, bright, and silly tone, centered on a clumsy dog whose antics trigger a small adventure involving Santa. The sensitive material is limited to a flashy sleigh crash, Santa being temporarily separated from his route, and a few brief moments of tension about whether gifts will reach the children. These scenes stay highly cartoonish, with no visible injury, no cruelty, and no sustained threatening atmosphere, making the overall experience gentler than many fast paced family comedies. Most children from age 4 should be able to handle it, although very sensitive viewers may be startled by the crash and by the idea of Santa stranded far away. Parents can help by framing it as a light Christmas mishap story, where the problems are presented in a funny and reassuring way.
Synopsis
A snowy fairy-tale setting. A full moon. The house and garden are overflowing with glowing, twinkling Christmas decorations. LOOPDIDOO is busily flattening a long stretch of snow: his landing strip is ready! Now all he has to do is wait… But for whom? Santa, of course! PETUNIA, doubled up with laughter, gently teases him: it’ll never work! But would you know it, PETUNIA’s wrong! All of a sudden, SANTA crosses the moonlit sky in a superb, art-deco-pimped chopper-sleigh. LOOPDIDOO starts dancing around like crazy, waving his fluorescent sticks in the air to grab his attention. But then, distracted by our loopy dog, SANTA loses control of his sleigh… and crashes into the moon! Explosion! In a shower of sparks, the sleigh falls earthbound… and more precisely right into PETUNIA’s garden! As for SANTA, he’s marooned on the moon, with his sack of Christmas gifts! PETUNIA can’t believe her binoculars… Nice one, LOOPDIDOO, now that is a blunder… The blunder of the century!
Difficult scenes
The most intense moment comes when Loopdidoo tries to catch Santa's attention with exaggerated movements and bright signals, causing the sleigh to spin out of control. The crash is visually flashy and includes sparks, which may startle very young viewers, although it is presented in a clearly cartoon style with no realistic injury shown. Another point of tension is that Santa ends up stranded on the moon with his sack of gifts, raising the worry that Christmas deliveries may not continue as planned. This idea could unsettle children who are very invested in Christmas traditions, although the film handles the problem in a light, funny, and visually magical way.
