Expert review

This animated fantasy film has a much darker and more tense atmosphere than a typical broad family adventure, even though the visuals remain stylized rather than realistic. It includes intense magical fights, ongoing threats surrounding a teenage girl marked for sacrifice, unsettling supernatural creatures, and injuries and deaths that may be upsetting for younger viewers. These sensitive elements are not occasional, they appear throughout the story and are reinforced by a dramatic emotional tone centered on friendship, protection, and the moral fracture between key characters. The violence is mostly stylized, yet it feels heavier and more emotionally charged than in many child oriented animated films. Parents should consider watching with children under 12, especially if they are sensitive to sudden loss, frightening villains, or stories in which teens face tragic responsibilities.

Synopsis

Pursued by a religious cult and other curse users, former friends Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto are the only sorcerers capable of carrying the difficult task of protecting Riko Amanai, a student who has been designated to be sacrificed as the Star Plasma Vessel, until she can fulfill her duty.

Difficult scenes

The story begins with a teenage girl being hunted by several groups because she has been chosen for a ritual sacrifice. That premise can be disturbing for children, because the threat is direct and focused on a young person, creating strong moral tension from the very start. Several confrontations involve supernatural powers, forceful blows, and a believable risk of death for important characters. Even with stylized animation, some attacks land with real intensity and may unsettle children who struggle with sustained action or sudden shifts in danger. The film also features curse users and a cult, with scenes that feel oppressive and visually unsettling. These moments are not full horror, yet they maintain a continuing sense of threat that can linger for younger viewers after the movie ends. Beyond the action, the plot explores the breakdown of a central friendship and a move toward darker choices. That dramatic layer may affect preteens strongly, because it combines sadness, disillusionment, and loss of trust between characters who once cared deeply for each other.
