Detailed parental analysis

Jujutsu Kaisen : Execution is a dark and brutal fantasy action film adapted from the manga and anime franchise of the same name. The plot follows a group of supernatural fighters confronted with demonic threats of escalating magnitude, in a world where cursed spirits ravage the population. The film is aimed primarily at a teenage and adult audience already familiar with the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, and makes no concessions for uninitiated viewers or young children.

Violence

Violence is the most striking element of the film and constitutes its near-constant centre of gravity. Battles are accompanied by repeated sprays of blood, dismemberments shown without restraint, and corpses with explicit anatomical detail. A sequence of massive destruction involving thousands of civilians killed by an entity possessing the protagonist represents the peak of intensity: death is shown on an industrial scale, without particular emotional filtering. Whilst the violence fits within a narrative logic of sacrifice and existential stakes, it remains omnipresent and often aestheticised, which attenuates its critical force. For a teenager, the question to pose is not so much one of fear as one of habituation to an extreme level of normalised visual violence defined by the genre.

Underlying Values

The narrative foregrounds courage, solidarity amongst fighters and the acceptance of sacrifice as a path towards protecting others, which constitutes its most solid moral foundation. However, the resolution of conflicts takes place exclusively through violence and physical power, with no alternative ever being considered. The hierarchy amongst characters rests on brute force, and performance in combat defines the individual worth of each. These patterns, consistent with the franchise's universe, merit discussion with a teenager who might see in it solely a tale of heroes without perceiving its underlying assumptions.

Discrimination

A secondary character expresses explicitly misogynistic remarks about gender roles and comments inappropriately on a woman's physical appearance. This discourse is not valorised by the narrative, but neither is it firmly contradicted at the time, which establishes it without genuine narrative pushback. Women moreover occupy less central roles than men throughout the film. These elements, occasional but present, offer a concrete opportunity to discuss with a teenager how entertainment media sometimes treat such representations.

Social Themes

The mass destruction and death of large numbers of civilians raise, in the background, questions about collective responsibility in the face of an uncontrollable threat and the human cost of conflicts involving powers that exceed ordinary individuals. The film does not develop these themes in an explicitly political manner, but the sequence in question is sufficiently intense for the question of the meaning of these mass deaths to merit discussion with a young viewer.

Strengths

The film offers dynamic and legible action direction, with artistic vision consistent with the franchise's dark universe. For teenagers already familiar with the manga or animated series, it constitutes a satisfying narrative extension and an immersion in a rich Japanese fantasy imagination steeped in specific cultural codes. The exploration of themes such as willing sacrifice and solidarity in the face of adversity gives the narrative genuine moral depth, even if it often remains submerged beneath the visual intensity of the battles.

Age recommendation and discussion points

The film is not recommended before age 14 due to sustained graphic violence, mass death scenes and the general level of visual intensity. A serene viewing is more feasible from age 16 onwards. Two angles are worth discussing after watching the film: why this type of narrative systematically presents physical force as the sole response to crises, and how to respond to a character whose misogynistic remarks pass almost unnoticed in the flow of action.

Synopsis

A veil abruptly descends over the busy Shibuya area amid the bustling Halloween crowds, trapping countless civilians inside. Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer, steps into the chaos. But lying in wait are curse users and spirits scheming to seal him away. Yuji Itadori, accompanied by his classmates and other top-tier jujutsu sorcerers, enters the fray in an unprecedented clash of curses — the Shibuya Incident. In the aftermath, ten colonies across Japan are transformed into dens of curses in a plan orchestrated by Noritoshi Kamo. As the deadly Culling Game starts, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is assigned to carry out Yuji's execution for his perceived crimes. A compilation movie of Shibuya Incident including the first two episodes of the Culling Games arc.
