Expert review
This animated film belongs to the highly combat driven Dragon Ball Z universe, with a heroic science fiction atmosphere, spectacular rivalries, and a large scale threat hanging over Earth. The sensitive material comes mainly from frequent fights, powerful energy attacks, threatening villains, non graphic but visible injuries, and repeated ideas of death and resurrection that may unsettle younger viewers. The intensity is steady and sometimes high, because much of the story is built around escalating battles, even if the presentation stays very stylized, unrealistic, and occasionally lightened by humor and teamwork. For children who already know action anime, it may be manageable, but it is clearly stronger than an average family adventure. I would advise parental support before age 10, especially for children who are sensitive to domineering villains, large scale destruction, or scenes where heroes are left in serious danger.
Synopsis
One peaceful day on Earth, two remnants of Frieza's army named Sorbet and Tagoma arrive searching for the Dragon Balls with the aim of reviving Frieza. They succeed, and Frieza subsequently seeks revenge on the Saiyans.
Difficult scenes
The main villain returns through a fairly strange resurrection scene, because his body first comes back in pieces before being rebuilt with futuristic technology. The moment is not gory in a realistic sense, but the idea of a dismembered body being restored can be disturbing for a young child, especially if they take the images literally. A large section of the film shows repeated battles between the heroes and an entire army, with blows, launches through the air, energy blasts, and characters overwhelmed by sheer numbers. The presentation remains very stylized, however the frequency of the fighting is high and may exhaust or overstimulate younger viewers, especially because the enemies clearly intend deadly harm. At one point, a hero is struck very violently and unexpectedly when the situation seemed under control, creating a sharp feeling of betrayal and sudden vulnerability. The injury is visible, the pain is clear, and this abrupt turn may worry children who are strongly attached to the main characters. The story also includes a planet level destruction threat, with characters facing an enormous loss in a matter of moments. Even within a fantasy setting, the idea of the world being destroyed and allies potentially wiped out gives the film an emotional and tension filled peak that sensitive children may find upsetting.
