Secret Headquarters (2022) is a family action film blending superhero adventure with teen comedy, following a group of 14-year-olds who discover the hidden base of one friend's father, a masked superhero. The overall tone is light and fun, with humor calibrated for preteens, impressive special effects, and a touch of innocent romance between the characters. The sensitive elements are mainly concentrated in physical confrontations between the kids and armed mercenaries, the use of weapons and high-tech gadgets, and several tension-filled scenes where the young protagonists face a genuine threat from dangerous adults. These action sequences remain stylized without graphic violence or visible blood, but the threat is credible and sustained through much of the second act. Parents can watch this film with children from around 9 to 10 years old, noting that the main characters are 14 and that some action sequences may surprise younger viewers.
Synopsis
While hanging out after school, Charlie and his friends discover the headquarters of the world’s most powerful superhero hidden beneath his home. When villains attack, they must team up to defend the headquarters and save the world.
Difficult scenes
Armed mercenaries equipped with military gear invade Charlie's house and hunt the children inside the underground headquarters. The scene is prolonged and the adults pose a credible physical threat to the group of young friends, which may create real tension for children under 9. The main villain, weapons CEO Ansel Argon, kidnaps one of Charlie's friends to force him to reveal the location of a powerful energy source. The kidnapping is shown clearly, with the child held under explicit threat from an adult, which may worry younger viewers. During the climactic showdown at the school dance, Charlie uses a handheld grenade to send the villain through a portal to another dimension. The sequence is spectacular, featuring explosions and a direct confrontation between a teenager and an armed, threatening adult.
